Key Information
Validity / Stay / Residence
The stay matches the approved occupational training/professional development program period, up to 2 years; multiple entries are allowed during this time. To extend, apply for a new 407 before expiry.
Eligible Dependants
Eligible family members (spouse/de facto partner, dependent children) can be brought; they can apply together and accompany you.
PR / Permanent Residence Pathway
This visa does not lead directly to PR. 407 is a temporary occupational training visa; after training you usually need to move to another visa (such as employer-sponsored 482/186 or skilled 189/190/491) to move toward permanent residence; the training experience can support the work/skills background for some visas.

Common Refusal Reasons
- Lacking an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor, or a non-compliant nomination/Deed of Agreement
- The training plan is not specific or genuine, or cannot be shown to substantially improve the applicant's occupation
- The applicant's current skills/experience do not match the proposed training (too high or too low)
- Not taking out and maintaining health insurance covering the entire period (8501)
- Unable to prove a genuine temporary entry intention (GTE-type considerations), or funds or English fall short
